We’re a term-based choir in Brighton and Hove

We run three terms a year:

  • January - April

  • April - July

  • September - December

We meet on Mondays and Tuesdays, so you can choose an evening that works best for you.

Every term ends with a big end-of-term gig where we sing for friends, family …and Brighton and Hove!

FAQ

  • We sing big, joyful harmony versions of pop, soul and gospel classics — everything from Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin to Florence + the Machine, Fleetwood Mac, Rag’n’Bone Man, Coldplay and more. If you love a good tune, you’ll fit right in!

  • No worries at all — you’ll find out in rehearsal. We always warm up together and go through all the notes. If you’re still unsure afterwards, just chat to Vanessa (our choir leader) and she’ll help you find the part that feels right.

  • We rehearse at St Mary Magdalen’s School on Spring St in Brighton. Monday rehearsals run 6:15pm-7:45pm, Tuesday rehearsals 7:30pm-9pm. Our gig venue changes each term between one of several brilliant Brighton locations! You’ll find the exact address, map, and all practical details on the ticket page.

  • All travel details and the map are on the ticket page. It’s always worth double-checking public transport on the day.

  • It’s absolutely fine to miss the odd session. We film each rehearsal, and everyone gets guide vocals. Our Friday email summarises what we covered, so you can easily catch up at home.

  • We don’t use lyric sheets or sheet music in performance. They’re fine for rehearsals or practising at home, but it’s best to move away from them as soon as you can. If you want support with this, just ask Vanessa during rehearsal.

  • Yes. Many singers find that breathing exercises and singing can be helpful. Vanessa was diagnosed with asthma as a child, and singing has supported her hugely — though everyone’s experience is different. Please bring anything you need to feel comfortable, including your inhaler and water. If you need to sit down at any point, that’s completely fine.

  • Definitely. Rehearsals are joyful, and getting to know the people you sing with makes it even better. Lots of us head to the pub afterwards — if you’re coming solo, say hello to the person next to you and wander down together.

  • We love the gig because it builds confidence and feels incredible — even singers who were nervous at first have ended up loving it. But if performing isn’t for you, that’s totally okay. You’re welcome to come for the weekly singing and community.

  • Absolutely. Singing in rehearsals is brilliant in its own right, even if you can’t be there on the day.

  • Sound check and dress rehearsal (when we have one) are essential for a smooth show. To perform in the gig, you’ll need to attend both.

  • Yes — sets are usually 45–60 minutes and we stand throughout. If you need to sit for medical reasons, just let us know in advance and we’ll arrange a chair.

  • Because of logistics, we can’t swap singers between choirs mid-term. Please choose the choir that suits you best before the term begins.

  • Once term fees are paid, refunds can’t usually be given, as we need a set number of singers for the term to run. If you know you can’t make it at least a week before the start of term and we’re able to reallocate your place in the first week, we may be able to refund or roll your fees over (minus a £20 admin fee). If it’s less than a week before term, or once term has begun, we’re unable to offer refunds.
